Definition:
Di-isodecyl phthalate (DIDP) is a mixture of closely related substances known
as isomers which have two carbon chains that can be 9 to 11 carbons long, with
the largest portion having 10 carbon atoms in the side chains.
Around 95% of DIDP is used in PVC as a plasticiser. More than half of the
remaining 5% is used in the production of polymers other than PVC (e.g.
rubbers). The remaining DIDP is used in non-polymer applications including
anti-corrosion paints, anti-fouling paints, lacquers, inks, adhesives and
sealants.
