Cardiovascular diseases refer to a group of diseases affecting the
cardiovascular system (heart and blood vessels). The narrowing or blockage of
blood vessels (often due to atherosclerosis) results in a reduced blood supply
to the heart muscle. This is often characterized by chest pain (angina) and
heart attacks.
