A controlled landfill is a landfill whose operation is subject to a permit
system and to technical control procedures in compliance with the national
legislation in force. Includes specially engineered landfills.
An example of a specially engineered landfill is placement into lined discrete
cells which are capped and isolated from one another and the environment.
