1. Source for this Digest

The material content of the texts on Level 2 is directly sourced from "The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2008" , Part 1 World review of fisheries and aquaculture, of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), a leading scientific report published in 2009 by a large international panel of scientists.

This flag ship publication of the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department is published every two years with the purpose of providing policy-makers, civil society and those whose livelihoods depend on the sector a comprehensive, objective and global view of capture fisheries and aquaculture, including associated policy issues.

The Level 1 was written by the GreenFacts editorial team.

This new fisheries digest replaces and updates the summary of "The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2004" that had been produced by GreenFacts in 2005 and presented on this website.
